CONSIDERING THE ANCIENT CITY
OF HANOI
By Mrs. Huyen Thanh Quan
One wonders why the Creator puts on
such a show.
So much time has gone by since the
City began –
carriages once rolled where now there
is autumn grass
The setting sun casts shadows on old
palace floors
and old stone walls lie upon under the
moon.
The country frowns at such scene of
modern squalor –
a thousand years lie on the face of
the old mirror.
The people here have always had to
endure misery.
